BT Home hub causing computer to restart?

Any ideas why my computer re starts as soon as I connect to the internet. Could it be somthing to do with my BT home hub as this as stated since it was installed alonng with a bt vision package.It only affects the main account holder all ther sub accounts work fine.

Hi it is good to know ur idea. My advice is just divide ur budget by 2. Half of ur money u invest and half keep in bank. Don’t go for a huge. Slow & steady wins the race. As you have less experience at primary stage you may loss some thing, but a determination will lead you to success.

I need to set up another computer in my home?

My son just started a internet home studies program and has taken controll of my internet whats the best way to conect more then one computer in my home? Ive heard a router. but theres several different ones and they range in price . whats the differance between the cheap ones and exspencive ones and is a router all i would need or do i need something else like to plug in the back of thr computers?

When it comes to routers, you usually get what you pay for – if you go for the cheapest one on the shelf, it may work for a while, but then suddenly stop working without warning or reason. If you go for the one next to it, you might pay more, but end up getting a product that will last longer.

The easiest way to connect more than one computer to the internet, if you use a modem provided by your ISP, would be to buy what’s known as a switch. A switch requires no configuration – it automatically knows what to do on its own. All you would have to do is plug each computer into the switch, and then connect the switch to the modem. All of this is done with Ethernet cables, which are fairly cheap if you only need a few feet of cable. Switches also tend to be fairly cheap themselves.

You could also just use a router instead of a switch. Basic setup would be the same, though it isn’t quite as simple as “plug it in and it magically works”. This does have advantages over using a simple switch, most of them relating to controlling how it works, but it requires more work to set up. Specific instructions for how to set up your router would be included in the manual that comes with it.

Whichever route you go, I would personally recommend Linksys. I’ve used several of their products myself and all of them have been very reliable. Also, for either solution, you shouldn’t need to purchase anything extra aside from a bit of Ethernet cable, at most.
